The Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard destination is not only about offering visitors remarkable heritage sites, beautiful landscapes and unique gastronomy. Thanks to the talent of the artists and craftspeople here, you can expect so much more.

A destination centred around art

Art is a key part of the Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard destination! Several towns in this area have been awarded a label that showcases the artistic life there. This is the case for Uzès, labelled as a “Ville d’art et d’histoire” (Town of art and history) and Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, “Ville et métiers d’art” (Arts and crafts town).

At the heart of our destination is the Lycée Guynemer in Uzès, a specialised high school which is well-known as being an excellent school for arts and crafts. The students here work with metal, stone, wood and fabric. Some of them even come from far away to study at this school in Uzès.

Painting, sculpture, photography, dance, theatre, music, literature… All sorts of art forms are showcased across our destination!

Détours savoir-faire

The “Détours Savoir-Faire” project was started in 2019 by the Chamber of Commerce and Arts and Crafts of the Gard, and offers visitors the chance to make a “detour” to one of the Arts and Crafts or Gourmet workshops in the area. The goal is to help people discover the remarkable expertise of a selection of craftspeople, by venturing off the beaten track.

There are five “Detours” in the Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard destination:

This is an opportunity to meet the craftspeople and witness their expertise with your own eyes.

A rich programme of artistic events

Throughout the year, the Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard destination celebrates local artists and craftspeople with a wide range of events.

Every year, the Journée des Créateurs is held in Uzès, on the first Sunday of autumn. At the Place aux Herbes, dozens of local creators come to showcase their creations and their expertise. You’ll be surprised at the diversity of objects you can find on this day!

In much the same way, the Journée des Peintres et Sculpteurs is held every day on Ascension day in the same location, the Place aux Herbes in Uzès. A wide range of materials and techniques are represented here, there’s something for everyone and everyone will find an artwork that inspires them.

Pottery events are held in Saint-Quentin on a regular basis, including the famous Festival Terralha. La Braderie des Potiers, every year on the 1st May is a flea market where local artists come to sell artworks that are slightly flawed, at very affordable prices.

In Vers-Pont-du-Gard, the contemporary art festival organised by the “Cours et jardins des arts” association offers around forty carefully-selected artists to come and exhibit their work in the private courtyards and gardens throughout the village, over a weekend in July.

The talent of our destination’s artists is not limited to arts and crafts! There are so many forms of art and a variety of events organised in the local area. Events based on literature (Lussan se Livre, Rencontre de la BD et de l’Illustration), music (Nuits musicales, Soirées de Blauzac, etc.), dance (Uzès Danse, Entre Ciel et Garrigue), theatre (Uzès en scène, Les ATP d’Uzès…), photography (Les Azimutés d’Uzès, miNuit Blanche d’Uzès)… to name but a few!
